Canada Student Visa Requirements:
Eligibility Requirements:
You can apply to study in Canada if you
- are enrolled at designated learning institutions (DLIs)
- prove you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees, living expenses and return transportation
- are in good health and may need to undergo a medical examination(if required).
- have a clean criminal record, and provide a police certificate if required.
- convince the immigration officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires.
Documents Requirement:
- Letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
- Proof of funds
- Proof of identity, which includes a valid passport or a travel document.
- Proof of financial support
- An attestation letter from the province or territory where you plan to study
- Medical exam results (if required)
- Police clearance certificate
- Statement of purpose explaining your intent to study in Canada.
- Any additional documents
Study Permit Exemption:
Short-term Study Studies
A study permit is not required if the program of study is six months or less. The course can be full or part-time and can cover any subject.
Minor Children in Canada
Minor children under the age of 18 or 19 do not need a study permit to attend primary or secondary school if they meet one of the following conditions:
- They are refugees, or their parents are refugees or refugee claimants.
- They are in Canada with their parents, who have a work or study permit.
Members of Foreign Armed Forces
Members of the foreign armed forces who are in Canada on active duty are exempt
from requiring a study permit to study.
Family Members of Foreign Representatives
Family members of accredited foreign representatives or officers of foreign
governments may not require a study permit.
Registered Indians in Canada
Registered Indians in Canada, as defined by the Indian Act, do not require a study
permit to study in Canada.
How to Apply
You can apply for a student visa in Canada online and on paper.
Outside Canada:
To apply online, you need to :
- Create an account on the ocial Canada Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) website.

- A valid credit or debit card.
- Complete the application form according to the instruction guide provided by IRCC and attend a biometrics appointment if required.

Inside Canada:
You may be eligible to apply for a study permit from inside Canada if you meet one of the following conditions:
- You have a valid study or work permit
- Your parent, common-law partner or spouse has a valid study or work permit
- You’re a minor child attending primary or secondary school
- You’re an exchange student or visiting student
- You have completed a short-term course or study program required to be accepted at a DLI
- You’re a refugee claimant in Canada or a family member of a refugee claimant in Canada
- You or your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child has a temporary resident permit (TRP) valid for six months or more
